Travel Planning

I have been buying tickets. I now have the train tickets to get me to London and back later this month. I already had the plane tickets to Montreal for the Anticipation committee meeting. I’ll also be at the London Book Fair on the 21st and 22nd.

And I have my Eurostar and TGV tickets to go to Epinal in May for Imaginales. I don’t have a hotel sorted yet, but tomorrow morning I shall phone the Epinal tourist board and ask “parlez vous Anglais?” as meekly and pathetically as I can manage. (There are hotels that do online booking, but they are either sold out or several km out of town.)

Then I need to sort out where in the world I will be in June and July (not counting the few days when I know I will be in Helsinki).

Yeah, I know it sounds glamorous, but I can only do it because I’m homeless and living out of suitcase. If I could afford somewhere to rent I wouldn’t be able to afford travel.

  1. There are advantages to being homeless. Hopefully I will be able to get enough $ together to survive long enough to take advantage of it.

  2. Freedom is something I don’t get with a day job and sharing a house. I wish I could afford my own place, but that would mean no cons.

Sympathy. These are trade-offs we all make. Or have forced upon us. As someone once said, “freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.”

  4. I hope that you hit some decent waves whilst couchsurfing. Please also remind me as Imaginales approaches to make sure you have a file with fliers to print for it. Hmm, or if you prefer to make sure René gives you fliers when you come to Montréal for the meetings this month.

Also: I may have a task for you at the London Bookfair, I’ll send you an email.

  5. Jean-Louis is going to Imaginales. I’m assuming he’ll bring all of the Anticipation stuff. All I have to do is play trade show babe and persuade people to buy.

  6. Do we have flyers? I still have a goodly-sized pack of Anticipation postcards, and I was planning to bring those. I can bring more, but somebody will have to give them to me.

  7. I am assuming that something magical will happen at the Montreal committee meeting and flyers will appear. If not we can always have words with people while we are there.
