Sam Jordison’s survey of past Hugo winners has got as far as Walter M Miller Jr’s A Canticle for Leibowitz. Sam takes the opportunity to skewer literary reviewers for the various pretenses they came up with for saving Cormac McCarthy’s The Road from the ignominy of being described as, shock! horror!, science fiction.
