Getting More Women In Translation

Yesterday’s post about the numbers of women writers being translated was a bit depressing, but we can make progress on this. I was reminded (thanks Sue and Christina) that there are exciting projects underway in Spain, including this one: Spanish Women of Wonder. It is an anthology of science fiction stories by Spanish-speaking women that is already published to great acclaim in Spanish and is hoping to get an English language version. The authors in the book include AngĂ©lica Gorodischer, and there will be an introduction by Ann VanderMeer. So, why not get on over to Kickstarter and get involved.

  1. Spanish Women of Wonder look really interesting, thank you for sharing!
An anthology of Czech speculative fiction by women writers is currently being prepared by Frantiska Vrbenska and Zuzana Hlouskova. The deadline is in February and I hope I’ll see it published by the end of 2016. If I like the anthology, I would consider translating it. I also have a couple of stories by women on my “to translate” wish-list (which is currently at one editor’s). Should I send you the info if (when, hopefully) any of it sees publication in English? (As to other foreign languages, there was the Czech-SF issue of Romanian Fantastica.ro this spring, featuring three stories by female and two by male writers.)

    1. I’m always happy to promote new translation projects. I can’t promise to review the books, but I will blog about them.

      And thank you!
