At P-Con VI in March 2009 the Guest of Honor was Paul Cornell. I videoed the entire GoH interview, conducted by Pádraig Ó Méalóid. My apologies for the shaky camera work. There were times when I was laughing very hard.

The interview has been divided into 8 chunks for uploading to YouTube. The is Part I, in which Paul talks about being scared of Doctor Who when he was a kid; about schoolyard bullying; and about the need for SF TV shows to lie fallow now and then.

–~~~~~~~~~~~~–

This is Part II, in which Paul talks about going from writing Doctor Who fan fiction to writing for the show itself; the lack of an official canon for Doctor Who; and Steven Moffat’s Hugo wins.

–~~~~~~~~~~~~–

In Part III Paul talks about writing for Casualty; about the relationship between Doctor Who and pantomime; about his new project for the BBC; and about the Iain M Banks radio adaptation.

–~~~~~~~~~~~~–

Part IV moves onto the topic of comics. “Pulse-pounding” Paul Cornell talks about Stan Lee and his relationship with Alan Moore. Leah is appalled, and Catie Murphy cannot control her giggles. She’s not the only one. When everyone has calmed down Paul talks about Captain Britain and The Young Avengers. Paul’s wife phones him, presumably about Alan Moore.

–~~~~~~~~~~~~–

In Part V Paul talks about his novels, his short fiction and his addiction to attending conventions. Pádraig tries to ask leading questions.

–~~~~~~~~~~~~–

This is Part VI, in which Paul answers questions from the audience about Doctor Who.

–~~~~~~~~~~~~–

In Part VII the questions on the audience turn to other areas, including Captain Britain. Paul talks about how Heroes killed a project he was pitching to the BBC; about cricket; and about his love for Emma Thompson.

–~~~~~~~~~~~~–

In the final segment Paul talks about meeting Joss Whedon; about Battlestar Galactica; about Lost; and about blogging (including the car crash).

  1. Hurray! I’ll send out links hither and yon. I wonder if this absolves me from typing it up for the Forbidden Planet International blog?

  2. Paul Cornell says:

I’m Paul Cornell, and I approved this panel.

  3. Cheryl says:

Ah, that’s what I need for the blog, an official “By Appointment to Paul Cornell” logo.
