Bizzaro World

Let me get this straight: the British National Party is happy to amend its “whites only” membership rule in order to comply with equality legislation, but our glorious bishops demand that the Church of England be exempt from such legislation so that Christians can be free to hate whomever they please. Isn’t there something wrong here, Dr. Williams?

And in related news, Australia’s most famous anti-immigration politician, Pauline Hanson, is planning to leave the country because it is “swamped by Asians”. She wants to come and live in Britain. Somehow I think she has an entirely wrong impression of what she can expect here.

  1. Um? CofE is rather disconcerting, given that what ties I have are vaguely Episcopal – *sigh*

And really? Unless she heads north of Inverness, she’s in for quite a surprise…

  2. It’s not just ‘ The Poor ‘ who are Always with us.

One of the reasons that I do dislike Ra, Ra, Sing along with the Riotous and Wear The Ribbons of Wonderfulness campaigns of any sort is that they are the natural home of extremist loons who are always, and will always be, with us.

Here’s One that I’ve just come upon. Brace Yourselves .. In The Armour of Riotousness of Course …

” The basic purpose of the Battle Cry Campaign, as described in its promotional materials and events, is to ensure that Christianity survives in America by redefining society:[2] ”

Note the ‘ redefining society ‘ bit and also …

” “The evidence shows that if current evangelism trends prevail, only 4 percent of them [American teenagers] will stand firm for Jesus by the time they become the decision makers of our nation.”[6] ”

” “Our current society with 35% baby boomers as bible-based believers: increasingly perverted TV, film, music and video games, proliferation of Internet pornography, rise of activist government officials promoting gay marriage, attempts to remove the Ten Commandments from public buildings and attempts to remove God from the Pledge of Allegiance.”[9]
“What does a nation with 4% evangelical Christians look like? Netherlands legalized euthanasia, Nudity in newspapers in England, Scotland’s consenting age is 14 years old, Pastor arrested for preaching biblical perspective on homosexuality.”[10]
The campaign focuses on corporations and media outlets for targeting young people with advertising and programming depicting content often labeled objectionable by evangelical leaders:

“A stealthy enemy has infiltrated our country and is preying upon the hearts and minds of 33 million American teens. Corporations, media conglomerates and purveyors of popular culture have spent billions to seduce and enslave our youth.”[11] ”

Have YOU at any time or Do YOU Intend to Enslave Our Youth ? !!!

  3. I’m confused by BBC’s headline: “Australia race politician” Huh?! “Race politician”? Is that a typo for “racist politician”?

    (What’s a “race politician”?)

    1. “race politician” is BBC-speak for someone who goes on endlessly about race issues and is beastly to people of races other than herself but is likely to sue us if we openly call her a racist.

  4. When you say “Asian” to an Australian they will think of east-asian people – typically Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai and perhaps Indonesians. From that point of view maybe she will see a lot less of what she considers “Asian” faces. But I’m willing to bet she sees fewer of what she thinks to be “British” faces than she expects.
